The Marine Science Center is staffed by professionals who love the environment and share the ideals of conservation through education. We have a compliment of paid staff members supported by a group of dedicated volunteers that share a passion for environmental education.

Meet Joanne Semmer Ms. Semmer is the President of the Ostego Bay Foundation Inc. and the Ostego Bay Oil Spill Co-Op. Instructor for the Florida Master Natrualist Class, Chairman of the FMB Mosquito Control District and local historian.


Dan Eaton, Volunteer Coordinator

Meet Dan.

Educated at the University of Wisconsin, he has a passion for the outdoors. He is a Florida Master Naturalist and a member of the Florida Marine Educators Association and living the dream here in Southwest Florida. He is a tour guide for the Working Water Tour and Assistant Instructor for the Univeristy of Florida Master Naturalist Program.


Cathy Johnson, Director of Life Sciences

Meet Cathy.

With a Bachelor in Science Degree in Marine Biology from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and a Associate in Applied Sciences Degree in Marine Technoolgy from Cape Fear Community College, she brings extraordinary focus on Life Sciences. She shares her knowledge instructing both interns and volunteers facilitating learning objectives.


Jordyn Lutzow, Lead Biologist

Meet Jordyn.

Jordyn had an opportunity to visit the beautiful Three Sisters Springs of the Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge. While snorkeling with her father they had a close encounter with a Florida Manatee. This meaningful exchange inspired her to pursue a path in the sciences with career goals of working with the rehabilitation of injured marine animals and returning them to the environment. She continues to develop her skills with Florida Gulf Coast University Marine Science Programs.


Marilyn Odea, Docent

Meet Marilyn.

During my 10 years in Florida I have been a Swamp Buggy Guide, a naturalist at a large Resort on Captiva Island where I ran a Nature Center, Led beach and shell walks, taught kayaking and gave talks on Dolphin, Manatee and Ospreys. Marilyn was nominated for the 2019 Lee County E-Award.
